Ellen Filippelli

She:kon / Hello / Bonjour

My name is Ellen Filippelli, and my ethnicity is a beautiful blend of Kanienkeha:ka (Mohawk) and Italian. I
am a proud woman from the Wolf Clan and I reside on the Kanesatake Mohawk Territory.
My Ista (mother) raised me and my siblings in Montreal but we kept strong ties to the Territory where most
of our family lived. In the late 80’s I was drawn back to my Territory and People where I’ve been working
and residing ever since. The journey that I took allowed me to gain the knowledge and experience needed
to work in the field of justice and provide Indigenous Peoples guidance through the judicial system.
As the Transition Coordinator at the First Peoples Justice Center of Montreal I am available to support
offenders who seek ways to develop life skills or to better oneself through healing programs that support a
healthy and long-lasting transition. I am also available to assist indigenous peoples existing in the justice
system and want to prepare an after-care plan to ensure a successful reintegration back into society.
Niawenkowa / Thank-you / Merci
